Jazz Publishing Case Study

All That Jazz

Jazz Publishing produce a range of consumer magazines including Volkswagen
Camper, Skin Deep and 100% Biker. Studio Manager, Justine Hart, was looking for a future-proof solution to the growing problem of data scattered across multiple storage devices.

"We had grown to the point that we had data held on a vast number of external hard drives: it was becoming increasingly difficult to find important information quickly and efficiently. We knew we had to make changes but weren't quite sure where to start" said Justine.

"After undertaking a site survey, Inbay came back to us with a detailed proposal. We were impressed by their can-do attitude and attention to detail. They talked us through the pros and cons of several options and we decided to implement a G5 Xserve with a 250GB hard drive running OS X Server 10.3 which we use as a central file server. We can add additional disk space as we need it and having all our work stored in a central coherent location makes finding and managing our data a doddle".

"One of our other concerns was back-up and archiving: we know that this sometimes gets skipped and we wanted an automated system that we can set-up, run and forget. We settled on an AIT2 tape back-up drive using Retrospect Server back-up software with the addition of a dual layer DVD-writer for archiving all completed magazine issues".

"Inbay got us up and running really quickly and took time to talk us through the
new system so we felt 100% confident when they left. The system was implemented with the minimum of disruption: a key consideration in our deadline-driven environment" added Justine.
