Flâneur Case Study

A taste of France

Flâneur is a thriving restaurant and gourmet food hall on Farringdon Road.
The restaurant is so named after a certain breed of rich Parisien found in
18th & 19th century Paris markets. Such people, who didn't need to work
but needed to show off their wealth, would head for the markets and idlely
stroll around without worry. A sign of just how much time you had to idle
around used to be sometimes seen by people having a tortoise on a lead!
Flâneur has brought this concept back by filling their shelves with artisinal
& fine foods, so bringing the essence of the "Flâneur" to Farringdon.

Chris Fraser, Director at Flâneur, was looking to upgrade the business'
IT provision which comprised a mixed Mac and PC network on two levels.
The current system was showing its age and lacked a central file server with
data scattered across the network. At the same time Chris wanted to
implement a new electronic till system.

"Working with the till provider, we put forward a plan to maximise the use of
the existing workstations, upgrade the electrics, install a structured CAT5 network,
a central PC file server with tape back-up solution and a high speed colour laser printer to speed up menu printing" says Kristian. Each Mac got a spring clean, and we transferred the existing restaurant FileMaker databases to the new server to ensure they get backed up daily".

Mark Duke was responsible for overseeing the work onsite: "There were some
interesting challenges at Flâneur: it was an unusual but rewarding job for us
because of the nature of the business and their very specific requirements.
We wanted to ensure they got the best system for their needs and budget
which I think we have achieved. We are providing them with ongoing telephone,
email and onsite support and look forward to assisting them as they continue to grow".

"Inbay impressed me from the outset" said Chris. "During our first meeting
I found both Kristian and Mark to be professional and straightforward.
All the questions I had were fully dealt with while all their suggestions were
properly explained without too much technical jargon. I would have no hesitation
in recommending them."
